Why I postponed my trips to G-20, AU-EU summits — Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has postponed his trips to South Africa and Angola for the G-20, AU-EU summits following new security incidents in Kebbi and Kwara states.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday.
Tinubu was earlier scheduled to travel to Johannesburg for the G-20 Summit and then proceed to Luanda for the AU-EU Summit.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu cancelled the trips to focus on the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, and the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
He said the President has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, with a directive to track down the attackers.
Onanuga disclosed that “in response to the request by the governor of Kwara State, President Tinubu has ordered the deployment of more security men to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, and directed the police to go after the bandits who attacked worshippers.”
He is expected to get further security briefings on the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and the attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.
Recall that President Tinubu had on Tuesday directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi state to sympathise with the state government over the abduction of 25 students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State and the tragic killing of the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku.
President Tinubu also reiterated his directive to the security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the 24 schoolgirls, abducted by the bandits and bring the girls back home, safe
