President Tinubu Shines at BRICS Summit: in Rio de Janeiro

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made waves in Rio de Janeiro by representing Nigeria at the 2025 BRICS Summit, a landmark appearance following Nigeria’s elevation to BRICS Partner status in January. Beyond the high‑level dialogues on global finance and sustainable development, Mr. Tinubu seized a pivotal opportunity to advance women’s economic empowerment at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

On the summit’s sidelines, President Tinubu held a strategic meeting with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo‑Iweala, WTO Director‑General, to celebrate Nigeria’s triumphant bid for the International Trade Centre’s Women Exporters in the Digital Economy (WE‑IDE) Fund. This groundbreaking initiative will:

Empower thousands of women entrepreneurs by providing grants, training, and digital tools.

Scale up women‑owned businesses in e‑commerce, fintech, and online services.

Bridge gender gaps in trade by enhancing market access and fostering global partnerships.

“By investing in our women, we invest in Nigeria’s future,” President Tinubu stated, emphasizing how digital inclusion accelerates economic diversification and national growth. Dr. Okonjo‑Iweala lauded the collaboration, noting, “Nigeria’s leadership in WE‑IDE sets a powerful example for the continent.”

As the world’s eyes turn to BRICS, Nigeria’s dual role—as a strategic partner on the global stage and a pioneer in women’s digital trade—signals its readiness to lead Africa into an era of innovation, equity, and prosperity.
