Tinubu’s reforms in Nigerians’ best interest – Idris

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has said that the policy reforms spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are designed in the overall interest of Nigerians.

Idris made this known on Wednesday in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), jointly led by the General Secretary, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, and Deputy President, Mr. Sabestian Abu, during a courtesy visit.

Highlighting key reforms, the minister noted that the removal of fuel subsidy has enabled state governments to receive increased federal allocations, thereby empowering them to deliver more dividends of democracy to their citizens.

He also pointed to the success of the Federal Government’s Student Loan scheme. According to him, “Over 300,000 Nigerian youths have returned to school because the Federal Government is paying their tuition fees and providing upkeep allowances.”

“President Tinubu believes that no young Nigerian should be denied access to education because of financial hardship. So far, over N50 billion has been expended on the student loan project, and many students are now back in school, fulfilling their dreams,” he added.

On the agricultural front, Idris emphasized the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the sector, noting the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development — a first in Nigeria’s history. He also commended the establishment of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, describing it as a strategic move to harness the nation’s aquatic resources for economic growth.

While addressing the issue of national security, the minister acknowledged that challenges remain, but stressed that there has been “relative improvement” compared to previous years, especially along major routes like the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

He called on media professionals to support the fight against terrorism and criminality by highlighting the victories and sacrifices of Nigeria’s armed forces.

“It is important we project the achievements of our gallant military over terrorists, bandits, and other violent elements threatening the peace of our country,” he urged.
