TInubu Administration Unveils Bold Plan to Connect 20 Million Young Nigerians to Jobs by 2030

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday chaired the inaugural board meeting of Generation Unlimited (GenU) Nigeria, coinciding with the 2025 International Youth Day celebration themed “Youth Innovation for a Sustainable Future.” The meeting brought together key stakeholders from across the youth development ecosystem.

The reactivated GenU Nigeria Board has been tasked with an ambitious mandate—to connect 20 million young Nigerians to employment, training, and entrepreneurship opportunities by 2030, with at least 60% of beneficiaries being women.

In his remarks, Shettima announced a national skills programme to bridge Nigeria’s employment gap, stressing the importance of harnessing the nation’s youthful population, of which over 60% are under 25.

“An advantage unrealised is merely potential wasted. We must refine it, invest in it, and channel it towards productive destinies,” he said.

Highlighting the challenges, Shettima described a “trilemma” in Nigeria’s skills ecosystem—too many young people excluded from opportunities at the start, training disconnected from real livelihoods, and inadequate infrastructure for large-scale, hands-on learning.

The initiative aims to turn these challenges into opportunities, driving sustainable growth through youth empowerment.
