Why South-East should give Tinubu 90% votes in 2027 — Umahi
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has called on the people of the South-East to give President Bola Tinubu support in the 2027 presidential election, urging them to deliver at least 90 percent of their votes to him.
Speaking in a statement on Monday, Umahi said such a move would strengthen the region’s political relationship with the president and pave the way for an eventual South-East presidency.
“We must not be deceived again. Mr President must have the votes of the South East up to 90% to cement this relationship,” he said.
“Enough of darkening counsel without knowledge in the South East. We must rise to educate our people.
“If we want to be president, we must avoid the politics of hate, misinformation, and sentiments.
“We must support other regions, and with God, one day, other regions will support us. Mr President must be supported to complete his tenure of 8 years, which all regions are benefitting from.
“One day, we will be number one, but not in 2027. I will vocally continue to stand against any mischief to deceive our people. We are known for hard work and love and not hate.”
The minister also dismissed a recent publication alleging that the Tinubu administration was sidelining the South-East in road infrastructure projects, describing it as “misleading and inaccurate.”
He said, “Where was the writer when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR decided to treat South East fairly in road infrastructure like other regions? Umahi asked.
According to Umahi, 90 percent of abandoned projects in the region some dating back to 2013 have been revived under Tinubu.
“Under his administration, 90% of abandoned projects, some awarded as far back as 2013, were all revived, and all are now ongoing,” he added.
He maintained that the president’s fair distribution of infrastructure was aimed at uniting Nigerians, regardless of political leanings.
He listed several major projects currently ongoing in the region, including the N46 billion access road to the Second Niger Bridge in Delta, a N176 billion road project in Anambra, the 208km Enugu–Onitsha road funded through the MTN tax credit scheme, and the Enugu–Port Harcourt road, among others.
Umahi also commended South-East governors for their development efforts and urged residents to focus on unity and collaboration with other regions to achieve the dream of producing a president from the zone in the future.
