No amount of conspiracy can remove Tinubu in 2027
Director General of Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), Hon. Bisi Yusuf, speaks to Journalists on the alleged northern conspiracy, the group’s efforts at penetrating the North and its ‘12 million Buhari votes,’ among other issues.
Recently, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, remarked that the battle to unseat President Bola Tinubu is a ‘national consensus’ and not a ‘northern conspiracy.’ What do you make of this statement?
A national consensus to remove Jagaban? Well, let the conspiracy come from anywhere. The question is: do they have the capacity to remove Jagaban in 2027? The North did not conspire against past presidents of the country who spent eight years in office without achieving half of what President Tinubu has done in just two years.
How do you conspire to remove a performing president? It is not possible. No amount of conspiracy can remove President Tinubu from office in 2027. His performance and achievements are enough to keep him in office for eight years. There is a difference between social media noisemakers and grassroots people. What we do at the grassroots is information dissemination. We are sharing the president’s achievements with the people. Everything is out there for Nigerians to see.
Yes, Nigerians may be complaining of tough times. But there is no way the president won’t take tough measures to correct what went wrong. It is like a person afflicted with a deadly ailment that requires surgery, there is no way such a person would not experience pain. That is exactly what is happening.
Before Jagaban came to power, the economy of Nigeria was in jeopardy and urgently required surgical intervention. That operation has been carried out, and while the healing process continues, Nigerians must endure some level of pain. As for the so-called conspirators, what did they do when they were in office? Let them point to concrete achievements. They can only rant on social media, but the facts are there for President Tinubu. His achievements are verifiable.
So, Nigerians must continue to endure the tough time till God knows when. Is that what you are saying?
Are you not a Nigerian? Are we not seeing progressive results in terms of economic performance? Is the President not performing? Is the economy not stabilising? Let’s be factual. This is reality. In the past, Nigerians lived borrowed lifestyles, but today the story has changed. We are living our realities. For growth, you must first know yourself.
There was a time when government borrowed foreign currencies to finance our local currency, pretending that the naira was strong. But today, under President Tinubu, the naira is stable. It takes courage to make such bold decisions. We once had two forex markets; now we have one. When fuel pump price was N250, the product was scarce, and you had to queue endlessly or bribe attendants. Today, at N850, you simply drive in and buy with ease.
The death of former President Muhammadu Buhari has thrown open 12 million votes in the North. Ahead of the 2027 election, what effort is the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu making to win a large chunk of these votes?
That’s a very fundamental question. We are called Grassroots Movement because we target votes at both the grassroots and among the elites. Many elites don’t usually vote; on Election Day, they sit in their homes watching television. But GMT enters the markets, streets and communities to mobilise people to perform their civic responsibilities.
No PVC is superior to another. The PVC of a beggar carries the same weight as that of a millionaire. That is why we are penetrating the grassroots and the response has been impressive. We are creating awareness of what the Tinubu administration is doing.
President Tinubu is rebuilding the economy, making it self-sustaining and stable. He is also a mind-builder. Look at what he did with fuel subsidy removal. It was a bold decision. Yes, it is painful, especially for those who benefitted from subsidy fraud, but the proceeds are now channeled into NELFund, infrastructure and social interventions.
So, President Tinubu is stimulating the economy and because of that, people are becoming more enlightened. By God’s grace, Lagos State will surprise the nation in the next election. So will the West, South South, North, and indeed the entire country. When we talk about winning the North, we do not see it as a monopoly. Some parts of the North are already with us. GMT is winning across the region.
The death of former President Buhari is painful, but it will not determine the voting pattern or the number of votes we will get in the North.
In Kano State, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) led by Rabiu Kwankwaso is dominant, just as former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is believed to control politics in Kaduna. How will you penetrate these two states, especially Kano, which has the highest number of votes in the North?
El-Rufai controlling Kaduna politics? They are social media politicians. This is what happens when you are deceived by propaganda. But as we speak, the governor of Kaduna State is APC. Do you think he is a political novice? He is a mature and performing governor. GMT is very strong in Kaduna.
Go to southern Kaduna: before President Tinubu, farmers could not go to their farms. Today, they have returned. The grassroots determine elections. Do you think they will abandon the man who secured their livelihood? The progressives own Kaduna. Forget the noise of frustrated individuals who allow self-interest to blind them to the good works being done.
For Kano, we have progressive-minded people. You can see the president’s efforts daily. We are dividing votes in Kano. That I can assure you.
So, what number of votes are you expecting from the North?
I won’t give numbers, but I assure you we are working. A general does not go to war and disclose his tactics. A commander who reveals all his strategies before battle is not a true general.
The Igbo complain of political marginalisation and say they will enter an MoU with any candidate who wants their votes. How prepared are you to strike a deal with the Ndigbo?
I am not aware of any MoU from any group, but I can tell you that we are working with all ethnic groups. We have ethnic directorates and are engaging with them. They are not blind; they can see what the president is doing. They will definitely vote for a performing president.
The PDP has zoned its presidential ticket to the South, while President Tinubu is also from the South. Will this not affect your party’s chances?
The PDP is not APC, neither is it LP. They can zone their ticket anywhere they like; it will not affect us in any way.
The ADC, an emerging opposition force, has former APC stalwart and ex-Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as its forerunner. Aregbesola once held Alimosho for the APC but has now moved to ADC. Has he moved Alimosho votes with him?
We will surprise the world. Alimosho has the highest number of votes, and we are very mindful of that. President Tinubu has invested heavily in us, and we must show appreciation with our votes.
When Aregbesola was there, he was not the only determinant of votes in Alimosho. Was he the only one? No. Jagaban owns Alimosho Federal Constituency, and we will continue to support him. The votes we give the president will positively surprise the world. He is marketable and performing to the admiration of Nigerians.
The ADC recently alleged that its programme in Alimosho was invaded by ‘APC thugs’…
Who invaded what? It was the ADC that invaded our constituency meeting, not the other way round. We were holding our meeting when they came. There is freedom of association, so we could not stop them from gathering. But the truth is, they invaded our meeting.
With the current state of the economy and the achievements of President Tinubu, how would you assess the administration’s performance?
President Tinubu has been stimulating the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians. He has made us see our reality as a nation and what needs to be done moving forward. This is why he is attracting foreign investors to create opportunities.
My advice to him is to continue and ignore distractions from naysayers and social media politicians. When your conscience is clear, you know you are doing the right thing. Some of the politicians who were governors when Tinubu was Lagos State governor, where are they today? While Tinubu invested in infrastructure and the future, they were busy building personal empires. Today, many of them are irrelevant.
All I can say is that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027. President Tinubu is doing well. The only major concern is insecurity, which cannot be tackled by one person alone. It requires collective effort. Bandits are not ghosts; they are human. We must remain vigilant, conscious of our environment and our brothers’ keepers.
