TInubu Administration to deliver world-class road infrastructure across Nigeria – Umahi
The Federal Government has pledged to deliver road infrastructure across Nigeria that meets the standards of Western countries, according to the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.
Speaking during an inspection of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway reconstruction project on Saturday, Umahi disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has directed the ministry to replicate world-class road designs and facilities nationwide.
“The President has directed that we replicate what we have in the West around here, with all the accompanying facilities, and we will do his bidding,” Umahi said.
The minister noted that President Tinubu had not only shown commitment to the timely completion of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano road but had also made significant financial provisions to deliver it as a flagship legacy project.
According to Umahi, Sections 1 and 3 of the project—covering 118 kilometres—are valued at ₦252 billion, with ₦60 billion (30 percent) already released. Section 2, covering 72 kilometres, is being constructed using reinforced concrete and flexible asphalt at a cost of ₦507 billion, out of which ₦150 billion has been paid.
“When combined, the entire project up to Kano costs about ₦761 billion. This is highly courageous, and I commend Mr. President for his interest in building this road as a priority project,” he said.
He assured Nigerians that the concrete roads under construction would last over 100 years—unlike the existing highway, which deteriorated within a decade.
Umahi further emphasized the importance of strict field supervision, revealing that the ministry has now set aside Saturdays for site visits. “We cannot stay in the office and know what is going on in the field,” he said.
