Wike: Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda Will Connect Abuja Satellite Towns To City Centre Within Minutes

…..Vows to Sustain Renewed Hope Infrastructure Drive, Tackle Waste, Security Concerns

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has assured residents of Kuje and Wuye districts that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration will deliver quality infrastructure that will connect satellite towns to the Abuja city centre within minutes.
Speaking during an on-the-spot inspection of ongoing projects in Wuye and Kuje Road on Saturday, the 5th of October, 2025, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, saying the projects were in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
According to him, the massive eight-lane dual carriageway under construction will drastically cut travel time between Kuje and the city centre to less than 20 minutes when completed.

Wike said, “We have visited this site about seven or eight times, and you can see the transformation for yourself. The contractors, Arab Contractors, have done a great job, especially in dealing with the rocky terrain. By the third year of Mr. President’s administration, we believe this will be one of the major roads to be commissioned. It will bring joy to residents of Kuje and the entire Abuja.”
He noted that the project symbolized the government’s determination to expand development beyond the city centre, allowing residents in the suburbs to enjoy the same level of infrastructure and ease of movement.

“By the time this road is commissioned, people living in Kuje won’t need to rent houses in the city. You’ll be in the city in 15 to 20 minutes. That’s what development is all about. That’s what the Renewed Hope Agenda represents,” he said.
Wike also inspected the Wuye District, where he commended the completion of major infrastructure, including the long-delayed interchange that has helped decongest traffic in the area.

“The Wuye District project was first awarded in 2009. We came on board in 2023 and made it a priority to complete the interchange. Other contractors have now finished the remaining infrastructure. In the next 10 days, the road will be ready,” he stated.
On security concerns raised by some residents, the FCT Minister maintained that Abuja remains one of the safest cities in Nigeria, adding that the administration was also enhancing security through infrastructure initiatives such as the Light Up Abuja project.

“Light Up Abuja is not just to beautify the city it’s to improve security,” he explained. “Incidents may happen anywhere in the world. Look at what happened recently in the U.S. would anyone say America is unsafe? If there’s one safe city in this country, it’s Abuja.”
Addressing questions on the indiscriminate dumping of refuse across the FCT, Wike disclosed that a new waste disposal contract will be awarded within two weeks, emphasizing that only qualified and well-equipped contractors will handle the task.

“We are already clearing waste along the Airport Road and Nyanya-Karshi axis. The former contracts expired before we came, but now, we are ensuring only competent contractors not political ones handle refuse management,” he said.

Responding to appeals from residents of Federal Housing areas facing poor road conditions, Wike humorously urged patience, saying, “Tell them to continue fasting,” implying that their turn for development would soon come.

The Minister reiterated that the FCT Administration remains focused on ensuring inclusive development, where both city dwellers and satellite town residents enjoy the dividends of democracy under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
