Benue APC inaugurates 510-member Elders’ Forum, endorses Tinubu for 2027

...Akume, Agada get confidence vote

The Benue South chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has inaugurated a 510-member Elders’ Forum, drawing five respected leaders from each of the 102 wards in the senatorial district.

The event, held in Otukpo had the gathering of thousands of party faithful who endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office as they also passed a vote of confidence on the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Benue State APC Chairman, Comrade Austin Agada.

Performing the inauguration of the elders at the event party stalwarts tagged “the mother of all political movements” ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Benue South Zonal Chairman of the APC, Bishop Pinot Ogbaji, said the forum was established to rebuild harmony within the party.

According to him, the APC needed “a stabilising bloc that can strengthen internal cohesion and restore confidence in a political climate needlessly destabilised by avoidable rancour.”

Dr. Ogbaji explained that the Elders’ Forum would guide the party strategically and defend its collective interest emphasising said the move became necessary in the light of what stakeholders described as the alleged “political missteps and divisive posture” of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Reflecting on the party’s journey, several leaders recalled the difficult years before 2023 when the APC held no major elective office in the state.

They noted that the APC, under Senator Akume and Comrade Agada, “mobilised from ground zero and went on to deliver the President, the Governor, two Senate seats, 10 out of 11 House of Representatives seats, and 23 out of 30 seats in the State Assembly.”

However, the leaders warned that the governor’s alleged disregard for party structures now threatens the unity that produced the party’s historic victory.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Elders’ Forum, Mr. Agbo Ogah, said the body would ensure that the APC “remains firmly rooted in Benue South.”

Ogah stressed that the elders would offer moral direction to younger politicians and “stand as a bulwark against tendencies that weaken party discipline.”

He acknowledged murmurs across the state about the governor’s leadership style, saying the elders would “not watch the house we built together drift into avoidable crisis.”

Delivering the goodwill message of the SGF, APC State Chairman, Comrade Austin Agada urged members to remain loyal to the national leadership of the party stressing that the strength of the APC “lies in unity and unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He highlighted federal appointments received by Benue indigenes and praised the President’s infrastructural and socio-economic interventions across the state, noting that the massive turnout at the event “reflects confidence in the Akume-led leadership” and signals that the APC is positioned for another resounding victory in 2027.

The Elders’ Forum thereafter formally endorsed President Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election and unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Senator Akume as leader of the APC in Benue and the entire North Central region.

They also affirmed confidence in Comrade Agada, describing him as “the engine room, bridge-builder, and rallying spirit holding the party together.”

Among the notable personalities inaugurated into the forum were Hon. Ralph Igbago, Hon. David Idoko, Rt. Hon. Barr. James Ochojila, Comrade Abba Yaro, Chief Sylva Ameh, Prof. Christopher Ebute, Hon. Mathias Oyigeya, and Hon. Adamu Entonu.

Others included Prof. John Enyi, Barr. Onazi, Hon. Jacob Ajene, Prof. Christy Ekoja, Hon. Joshua Saleh, Arc. Anthony Obekpa, Lady Kate Ijogi, Hon. Susan Abuh and several other prominent stakeholders.
