Okonjo-Iweala distances herself from viral anti-Tinubu post

The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has distanced herself from a viral social media post criticising President Bola Tinubu over the country’s security situation.

In a statement shared via her verified X handle, the former Nigerian Finance Minister described the post as fake and misleading, warning the public to disregard it.

She noted that the fabricated message, which had been widely circulated across several platforms, was part of a broader pattern of misinformation using her name to stir political controversy.

“I have recently been made aware of yet another fake post circulating on social media purporting to quote me as criticising President Tinubu. This is completely false,” she stated.

Okonjo-Iweala urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing and cautioned against the misuse of public figures’ names for political propaganda.

The WTO chief reiterated her commitment to focusing on her international responsibilities and promoting trade-led growth for developing economies, including Nigeria.
