2027 will be walkover for Tinubu — Senator
Senator Adegbonmire congratulates Aiyedatiwa, digital library to Akure NBA,
The Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Adeniyan Adegbonmire, has declared that President Bola Tinubu faces no significant opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting it will be “a walkover” for the incumbent.
Adegbonmire stated this in Akure, Ondo state, during the Adegbonmire Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment Programme for residents of Ondo Central, where no fewer than 900 constituents received various empowerment items and financial support.
Speaking with journalists, the senator dismissed concerns about political rivals or emerging coalitions against the President’s re-election bid.
He said, “Where is the opposition? I don’t know of any. Who is that?” he asked rhetorically. “The coalition? What’s their name? Let’s get serious. Tell me who is in the ADC. There’s no ADC.”
He said the empowerment programme was designed to support the re-election of President Tinubu as well as complement the efforts of the Ondo State government.
“Since the President cannot do everything himself, those of us supporting him must ensure that people feel his impact,” he added.
Items distributed included motorcycles, tricycles, sewing machines, hair dryers, grinding machines, generators, wheelchairs, educational materials and cash grants. He said each of the 65 wards in the district was represented, with at least 10 beneficiaries per ward.
He said, “We are empowering about 650 people with items and 200 others, who include widows, artisans and market women, with cash.”
Adegbonmire noted that although he has spent about two and a half years in the Senate, this is effectively his first full year of impactful representation due to the transition period after the 2023 elections.
He said the initiative was aimed at providing tools that would help constituents generate income and become self-reliant.
The state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, while speaking at the event, commended Adegbonmire for the “laudable and inclusive” initiative.
Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, Babatunde Kolawole, said the empowerment aligns with the state’s vision of expanding livelihood opportunities and promoting shared prosperity.
The APC State Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, described Adegbonmire as a distinguished lawmaker who has gone beyond the traditional duties of legislation and oversight.
He noted that the establishment of a Federal Teaching Hospital in the district was among the senator’s achievements.
Two prominent traditional rulers—the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, and the Olu Abo of Ilu-Abo and former SGF, Oba Olu Falae—praised Adegbonmire for his commitment to service, noting that he has earned his political rise through diligence and competence. They urged beneficiaries not to sell the items given to them.
The Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Abdul-Hakeem Yayi-Akorede, also applauded the senator for his sustained support to the people of Ondo Central.
