APGA endorses Tinubu’s 2027 run
The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has announced that the party will continue to align with progressive governments such as that of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, emphasising that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) may soon formally endorse the President for the 2027 general elections.
APGA National Chairman Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa stated at a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja that APGA, as the only main progressive party in Nigeria, is in line with Tinubu’s style of administration. He noted that it has long been the party’s tradition to support a central government that implements good governance.
“It is in the history of the party to work with the central government that is progressive. Counting from the days of Mr Peter Obi as Governor of Anambra State, through the days of Willie Obiano, to the present administration of Professor Chukwuma Soludo, APGA has worked with the government at the centre with good reasons, delivering good governance to the people. And let me stress further, it is not about participating in elections but ensuring the party works according to its manifestos.
“I have always said that the performance and progress of any political party lies in the positive performance of its leadership, and APGA is fortunate to have produced leaders who saw reasons to work alongside progressives. That is what the Governor of Anambra, Professor Soludo, is demonstrating.”
Addressing questions about rumours of Professor Soludo’s defection to the ruling APC, Ezeokenwa said: “Professor Soludo is going nowhere. I can say unequivocally that the Anambra State Governor, as party leader, never nursed such ambition.”

He also noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Anambra State underscores the progressive nature shared by the two leaders. “You saw the day Mr President visited Anambra State, he wore the APGA insignia without bias, so we are quite in support of him.”
Commenting on the appointment of the new Minister of Defence, Ezeokenwa criticised the over-centralisation of Nigeria’s security architecture, claiming no country with a federal system of government centralises its security network, and stated that his leadership will always support decentralisation.
Barrister Ezeokenwa expressed appreciation for President Tinubu, highlighting his visionary leadership and patriotism, and cited the appointment of Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu as minister as a milestone. “I can say it again and challenge anyone that she is the best Minister under this administration. This is the first time the party is producing a Minister not of the same party.”
APGA attributed its outstanding performance in the last Anambra gubernatorial election to the Governor’s accomplishments in delivering the dividends of democracy. Ezeokenwa dismissed criticism from opposition as the rants of misguided individuals intent on undermining the government’s achievements.
He emphasised that the party’s overwhelming victory—winning all but seven local government areas, over 75% of the total votes—reflects APGA’s popularity and impact in the state and beyond. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary democratic dividends to the people.
