Tinubu backs National Assembly move to boost women’s representation
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his administration’s support for ongoing constitutional efforts by the National Assembly aimed at increasing women’s representation in governance across Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Head, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Ahmed Lawan Danbazau, the President made the declaration at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caucus meeting held in Abuja.
According to the statement, President Tinubu described the move to expand women’s inclusion in leadership and decision-making positions as timely and necessary, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to gender inclusion in governance.
The President further stressed that his government fully supports initiatives that promote greater participation of women at all levels of leadership.
He also acknowledged the progress made by the Niger State Government, noting that the state has recorded notable success in appointing women to strategic leadership positions.
President Tinubu urged other states of the federation to emulate Niger State by creating more opportunities for women to participate actively in governance.
On grassroots development, the President charged governors to prioritise people-oriented programmes, stressing the need for government policies and interventions to reach citizens at the grassroots level.
The meeting brought together key party leaders and stakeholders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC governors, ministers, and other top party officials, among them the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim.
