You Can’t Stop The Moving Train, Tinubu Returning In 2027 – APC Chieftain

Deputy Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Deputy National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, has said that the 2027 presidential elections President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will earn a return mandate on the strength of governance outcomes already visible across the country

Speaking in an interview with reporters on Monday in Abuja, Ibrahim said improved infrastructure delivery, ongoing projects and the regular payment of salaries would shape voters’ decisions in the next election cycle.

She said: “As an IPAC executive, I cannot publicly disclose strategies, but I assure you that President Tinubu will return in 2027. Salaries are being paid, projects are executed, and infrastructure is improving nationwide. All these the modest achievements of Mr. President that will make Nigerians to return him in 2027.”

Beyond the question of electoral outcomes, Ibrahim addressed persistent claims that IPAC fuels crises within political parties, firmly distancing the umbrella body of political parties from such allegations.

She dismissed the notion outright, stressing that internal disagreements remain the exclusive responsibility of the affected parties.

“I do not think IPAC is responsible for the internal problems of any political party. That is their internal affair,” she said.

According to her, IPAC’s role is limited and clearly defined, particularly in its dealings with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Regarding factions, IPAC relates strictly with INEC. It is the names of party leaders on INEC portal that IPAC works with. We do not concern ourselves with factional disputes,” she added.

Ibrahim also used the occasion to project the APC as a party whose national spread naturally attracts politicians from across the country, arguing that such appeal should not be misinterpreted as orchestrated interference.

“APC is a formidable national party with representation across all zones. That attraction draws people in. You cannot stop a moving train. Other parties’ challenges are their responsibility,” she said.

On internal party processes, the APC chieftain maintained that the ruling party respects constitutional provisions and internal democratic principles, particularly in candidate selection.

She noted that consensus remains a constitutionally recognised option where party members voluntarily agree.

“The first form of election recognized by the Constitution is consensus. Where candidates agree to adopt a consensus candidate, the party must respect it,” she said.

While acknowledging that disagreements are inevitable in competitive politics, Ibrahim said dissatisfaction with outcomes should not be confused with a lack of internal democracy.

“On internal democracy she noted that APC adheres to internal democracy. In every contest, there will always be people unhappy with the outcome. Some people cannot manage losing. APC remains a party that leads in internal democracy,” she said.

Shifting focus to gender inclusion, the former Executive Director of the Directorate of Women Affairs in IPAC renewed calls for constitutionally backed special seats for women in legislative chambers, citing stark representation gaps.

“Women are grossly under-represented in Nigeria’s political space. In the Senate, there are only four women out of 109; in the House of Representatives, only 17 out of 360. Politics is a game of numbers. Without representation, voices are not heard,” she said.

She argued that structural disadvantages continue to limit women’s participation in politics, making affirmative measures necessary.

“Women are disadvantaged financially, educationally, socially, and politically. The advocacy for special seats is about equity, not superiority,” Ibrahim said.

Explaining the proposal, she added, “The proposal is for one Senate seat and one House of Representatives seat per state reserved exclusively for women to contest among themselves.”

Ibrahim further said women’s capacity to multitask and contribute meaningfully to governance underscores the need for guaranteed representation at decision-making levels.

She concluded with a direct appeal to lawmakers, urging them to support the initiative in the interest of national development.

“I call on our Senators and House of Representatives members to support special seats as a means of equity, justice, inclusion, and national development.”
