2027: Tinubu Can ‘Sleep Soundly’ Over Rivers Votes--Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can go to bed and “sleep with two eyes closed” over the outcome of the 2027 presidential election in Rivers State.
Wike insisted that Rivers State remains firmly in the camp of President Tinubu, stressing that neither he nor his supporters can be pushed aside or distracted from backing the President’s re-election.
“If there is one state Mr President can go home and sleep with his two eyes closed, it is Rivers State. These are the foot soldiers of the Renewed Hope family,” Wike said.
The minister spoke on Saturday in Port Harcourt during his “thank-you” visit to Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, where he addressed supporters drawn from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Recalling the 2023 presidential election, Wike said Rivers people stood by Tinubu against all odds, adding that he would not allow those who opposed the President then to hijack the “Renewed Hope” movement now that its benefits are emerging.
“In 2023, we led the struggle here. We supported Tinubu from the beginning. Those who backed Atiku Abubakar and couldn’t even deliver 10 per cent votes are now claiming they want to lead the Renewed Hope agenda. Is that possible?” he asked.
Using a popular analogy, Wike said those who did not contribute to the struggle had no moral right to claim its rewards. “You didn’t buy pepper, salt, or oil. Food is ready now, and you want to eat first. Nobody can push us out in this state,” he declared.
He urged his supporters to ignore distractions, remain united, and stay focused on ensuring Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, assuring them that 2026 would be better than 2025.
Earlier, Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir Allwell Ihunda, praised President Tinubu for sustaining democratically elected council administrations in the state, while hailing Wike for his developmental strides during his eight years as governor.
Also speaking, Mrs Blessing Amadi, representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency, lauded Wike for promoting women’s participation in governance, noting that Rivers State stands out in empowering women at the local government level.
Similarly, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr Smart Adoki, commended Wike for supporting Tinubu in 2023, saying the state is already enjoying the dividends of that decision, and pledged continued loyalty to the minister.
