Tinubu’s Reforms Already Delivering Results – Arewa
The Arewa Think Tank has thrown its weight behind the ongoing economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu, declaring that Nigeria is no longer merely hoping for recovery but is already witnessing clear signs of economic rejuvenation.
The convener of the group, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, made this known while reacting to recent positive indicators in the economy, aligning the Think Tank with the position of former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr Tunde Lemo, who recently said the country is “seeing light at the end of the tunnel” after a difficult year of reforms.
Yakubu said that while Lemo’s assessment was accurate, the situation on the ground shows that the light is no longer distant but already shining.
“We want to align ourselves with the position of the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Tunde Lemo, who said that Nigeria’s economy is gradually stabilising and that we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
‘In appreciating this statement, we want to add clearly that the light at the end of the tunnel is already shining,” Yakubu said.
He attributed the emerging economic stability to what he described as the courage and political will demonstrated by President Tinubu in implementing far-reaching but necessary reforms, despite their short-term pains.
Yakubu particularly praised the President’s excitement over the Nigerian capital market surpassing the N100 trillion market capitalisation milestone, describing it as a major vote of confidence in the economy and a validation of the reform agenda.
He also referenced Dr Lemo’s warnings that without the removal of fuel subsidy, tax reforms and monetary tightening, Nigeria could have plunged into a deeper crisis.
Yakubu said the Arewa Think Tank believes the gradual deceleration of inflation, stabilisation of the naira and renewed activity in the capital market show that the reforms are beginning to yield results.
“The N100 trillion NGX milestone, the decelerating inflation figures and renewed investor confidence are not coincidences. They are outcomes of deliberate and courageous leadership,” he said.
Yakubu, however, urged Nigerians to exercise patience and continue to support the administration, adding that sustainable growth requires shared sacrifice.
“The journey has been tough, but the signs are clear. The tunnel is behind us, and the light is already shining,” he said.
