2027: Edo APC pledges 3.5m votes to Tinubu
The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted on its promise to deliver 3.5 million votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
African Journalist reports that Governor Monday Okpebholo had, in several fora, pledged to deliver 2.5 million votes to Tinubu in the forthcoming Presidential election, a promise the Acting state Chairman of the party, Jarret Tenebe, had amplified to 3.5 million.
Re-echoing the pledge in Benin yesterday during an interactive session with newsmen, Tenebe said the promise to deliver such votes to Tinubu was not mere rhetoric, adding that the party had put in place the modalities to achieve the feat.
When confronted with the fact that the total registered voters in the state are not up to 3.5 million, and that oppositions too are working hard to garner from the votes, Tenebe, who dismissed the existence of opposition in the state, disclosed that the party is mobilising to get more Edo people registered, and that before 2027, registered voters in Edo would surpass 3.5 million.
Explaining how his party plans to achieve the 3.5 million votes, Tenebe said: “By next week, we will receive all the Labour Party (LP) local council chairmen into the APC. We have also held meetings with 16 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local council chairmen who are defecting. If you look closely, you will see that the opposition has already collapsed.
“We analysed the voter register and discovered that Edo State has about three million registered voters, many of whom are not currently living in the state. I have been travelling across the country to meet Edo people who registered at home, encouraging them to return during the election.”
Meanwhile, the PDP in Edo has called on security agencies to investigate Tenebe over his alleged death threat to a Facebook user identified as Blessing P Agho.
It was gathered that Tenebe allegedly issued the death threat to Agho for criticising the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Agho, who shared the screenshots on her Facebook page, alleged that the Edo State Acting APC Chairman said: “Death Awaits You; Send Me Your Address.”
Speaking on the development, the Edo State chapter of PDP urged security agencies to, besides the investigation of the death threat, also take appropriate action to prosecute Tenebe.
A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, and made available to newsmen in Benin City, opined that no citizen should live in fear of speaking out, and no political office holder should be allowed to issue threats with impunity.
