2027 elections: Southern coalition unveils nationwide mobilisation for Tinubu’s reelection

A socio-political group, the Southern Coalition for Tinubu 2027, has announced plans to officially launch in Abuja as part of efforts to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

The coalition, which claims a wide membership across the three geopolitical zones of southern Nigeria, said similar launch events would also be held in Lagos, Enugu, Ibadan, Owerri, Calabar, Port Harcourt and other major cities in the region.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Wednesday, the National Coordinator of the group, Pastor Bassey James, said the coalition was established to coordinate grassroots mobilisation among youths, men and women in southern Nigeria in support of President Tinubu’s second-term bid.

According to him, the coalition will focus on voter enlightenment, political sensitisation, engagement and advocacy, with the aim of consolidating support for the President’s policies and programmes across the southern states.

James, who is also the National President of the Southern Youths Development Forum Inc., said the group would promote the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that it intends to leverage what he described as the administration’s achievements to galvanise support ahead of 2027.

He expressed confidence that the President’s economic and governance reforms would deliver long-term benefits to the country and therefore require continuity.

The coordinator said the coalition would adopt peaceful and issue-based mobilisation, stressing that all its activities would be conducted within the confines of the Constitution and democratic principles.

“The Constitution allows two terms for the President. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will complete his eight years in office, and we will campaign for his re-election from state to state, neighbourhood to neighbourhood, and door to door,” he said. “The progress recorded under this administration must continue seamlessly until 2031.”

James also disclosed that the group had engaged political leaders and stakeholders across the three southern regions, including serving and former senators, ministers, youth groups and religious leaders.

He added that the coalition plans to collaborate with pro-Tinubu support groups in northern Nigeria as part of a broader national mobilisation strategy.

According to him, the Abuja launch will formally signal the commencement of the coalition’s activities, with plans to establish structures across the southern states in the coming months.

James noted that the coalition’s membership cuts across academia, professionals, industrialists, entrepreneurs and students, adding that it remains open to Nigerians who share its vision of a progressive country.

The event was endorsed by several stakeholders, including Professor Justus Sokefun, Professor Ebere Okorie, Professor Nse Ikpe, Mr Braimoh Austin Adogame, Abigail Edosa, Mr Emeka Obielom (Diaspora Coordinator), and Hon. Adaora Veronica Ijezie, among others.
