ATT appeals to Tinubu: Include RMAFC in Executive Order implementation committee

The Arewa Think Tank has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to include the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in the implementation framework of his newly signed executive order on oil and gas revenue remittance.

President Tinubu recently signed an executive order directing the direct remittance of oil and gas revenues to the federation account, a move aimed at safeguarding and enhancing national earnings, curbing wasteful spending, and eliminating duplicative structures in the petroleum sector.

The executive order, signed pursuant to Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and anchored on Section 44(3), seeks to restore the constitutional revenue entitlements of the federal, state, and local governments.

It addresses concerns arising from the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), under which substantial federation revenues were reportedly lost through multiple deductions, charges, and retained earnings.

Reacting to the development, the convener of the ATT, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, commended the president for what he described as a bold and timely intervention.

“We commend President Bola Tinubu for this courageous and patriotic executive order aimed at restoring transparency and accountability in the oil and gas sector. This is a step in the right direction for strengthening the Federation Account and ensuring that revenues due to all tiers of government are protected,” Yakubu said.

However, he noted that the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, a constitutionally empowered body responsible for monitoring accruals into and disbursement of revenue from the federation account, was not listed among members of the implementation committee constituted by the president.

“It may have been an oversight, but we respectfully appeal to Mr. President to include the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in the Executive Order implementation committee he has just signed,” Yakubu stated.

President Bola Tinubu has approved automatic employment for the four children of the late Head of the Civil Service of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Dr Grace Adayilo who recently passed on.
