Food security, top priority of Tinubu’s govt — Minister
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has declared that food security is the top priority of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to revamp the agricultural sector.
He made this known during the distribution of farm implements to commodity associations, cooperative groups, farmers with special needs, and internally displaced persons in Kaduna.
Represented by a director in the ministry, Mr Gukas Kizito Dankat, the minister noted that the objective of the present government is to support farmers towards attaining food security.
According to him, “This administration has demonstrated total political will to transform the agricultural sector of our dear country by making food security a top priority.”
Kyari stated that since assuming office, “we have settled down to review past policies and programmes in order to see where we can improve. This is so because the important goal of every nation is to attain food security.”
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Anto Ambi, called on farmers and relevant stakeholders to put all hands on deck to achieve food security, despite the unprecedented challenge of climate change.
He also urged the beneficiaries to utilise the gesture extended to them by making maximum use of the farm inputs.
Also speaking, the representative of persons with special needs, Abdullahi Jugunu, while thanking the Federal Government for including them among the beneficiaries, said the gesture would go a long way in stopping street begging.
Items distributed to the beneficiaries included power tillers, herbicides, liquid fertilisers, knapsack sprayers, water pumps, among others.
