It’s a diplomatic win’, GMI hails Tinubu on improved Nigeria–US relations
The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a significant diplomatic turnaround that has restored Nigeria’s dignity and relevance on the global stage, particularly in its relationship with the United States.
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Samaila Musa, the group described the development as “strategic leadership at its best,” noting that recent high-level engagements between Nigeria and the United States reflect the effectiveness of President Tinubu’s foreign policy direction.
According to GMI, within three months, the Tinubu administration has repositioned Nigeria from a nation perceived as diplomatically isolated to a respected and high-priority partner of the United States.
“What we have witnessed since November 2025 is a masterclass in strategic leadership,” the statement said.
“From the high-level engagements involving the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and members of the US Congress in December, to the joint counter-terrorism cooperation agreement, this administration has demonstrated a commitment to action, not just rhetoric.
“The fact that President Donald Trump recently described our First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as a ‘very respected person’ and said he was honoured to host her at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington shows that the path is now clear for a historic White House visit,” the group added.
While applauding these diplomatic achievements, the GMI acknowledged the ongoing security challenges within the country, noting that bandits and terrorist groups are attempting to regroup and launch fresh attacks despite progress recorded under the Renewed Hope agenda.
“We believe the end of banditry in Nigeria is now within reach, but this is not the time to relax,” the group said.
“As these criminal elements attempt to reorganise, we call on the Federal Government to intensify its efforts and sustain the pressure.”
The GMI reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies, pledging continued vigilance at the grassroots level.
“We urge the President to deepen this renewed collaboration with the United States and other international partners,” Musa said.
“Nigeria must fully leverage intelligence sharing, technology and military assistance from these alliances until banditry and terrorism are completely eradicated from our soil.
“The GMI stands firmly behind the President and the security agencies and calls on all Nigerians to remain patriotic as the nation moves towards a safer and more prosperous future.”
