Tinubu: Argungu Festival Return Signifies Stability in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu hailed the return of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival as a symbol of stability and unity, praising the event's resilience and its role in fostering peaceful coexistence. He commended the state's organization, security, and the ongoing collaborative efforts to combat insecurity, promising support for agriculture, tourism, and rural development in Kebbi state.
 Tinubu says the return of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival after a six-year hiatus signals a comeback of stability and normalcy across Nigeria , particularly in Kebbi state.

Speaking as a special guest of honour at the grand finale of the 61st edition of the festival in Argungu, a community in the state, the president described the historic event — which has endured for 83 years — as a “powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and peaceful coexistence” among Nigerians and participants from neighbouring countries.In a statement on Saturday, Bayo Onanuga, the president’s adviser on information and strategy, said the festival featured cultural displays, water competitions, traditional boxing, dancing, and the high-stakes fishing event, where a 59kg catch clinched the top prize.Tinubu praised Nasir Idris, Kebbi governor, for the seamless organisation and strong security arrangements that made the safe hosting possible. The organisation, security arrangement, and internal outlook of the event demonstrate what is possible when leadership is purposeful and inclusive,” the president said.“The fight against insecurity of any kind, including banditry and insurgency, will be won.”The president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agriculture, tourism, food security, and rural development, highlighting Kebbi’s agrarian strengths and promising joint efforts for economic gains. “The Argungu International Fishing Festival brings together people of different backgrounds, nations, and beliefs in the spirit of friendship and healthy competition. It showcases our heritage and projects Nigeria in a positive light to the rest of the world,” Tinubu said.
