Kekemeke emerges APC South-west chair, targets landslide for Tinubu

The newly elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Southwest Zone, Dr Isaac Kekemeke, has pledged that the region will deliver the highest number of votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Kekemeke made the pledge on Wednesday in his acceptance speech at the party’s zonal congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

He expressed confidence in the party’s dominance in the Southwest, projecting victories in the 2027 governorship elections in Osun, Ekiti, and Oyo states.

The APC zonal chairman also assured that his leadership would outperform previous administrations, pledging to mobilise support for both Tinubu and the party ahead of the elections.

Speaking on behalf of APC governors in the zone, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the peaceful conduct of the congress as a reflection of the region’s political maturity and tradition of orderliness.

He also acknowledged the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Sanwo-Olu commended delegates for their discipline, saying it underscored unity within the Southwest.

“We are here to congratulate the newly elected Southwest APC leadership. With this congress, we have shown that the Southwest is united and a formidable region. We have also demonstrated that we have learned a lot from our leader and President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” he said.

He added that the congress complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, reaffirming the Southwest’s status as a strong political bloc.

Earlier, Chairman of the Zonal Congress Committee, Jide Jimoh, said the Southwest remained a bastion of progressive politics and sound policy direction.

He stated that the congress followed due process and fully complied with the Electoral Act before calling for the affirmation of contestants through voice votes.

Those elected at the congress include Isaac Kekemeke (Chairman), Alfred Aluko (Secretary), Ismail Majaro (Legal Adviser), Lateef Ibirogba (Organising Secretary), Ayobami Afolabi (Publicity Secretary), Yetunde Adesanya (Woman Leader), Daramola Adesuyi (Youth Leader), and Dayo Ishola (Representative for Persons Living with Disabilities).

Dignitaries at the event included Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo); Deputy Governor of Lagos, Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba; Lagos GAC Chairman, Tajudeen Olusi; Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele; and Senator Tokunbo Abiru, among others.
