Opposition lacks capacity to unseat Tinubu in 2027 — Fintiri
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has said the opposition lacks the cohesion and capacity to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Governor Fintiri, who recently defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), spoke on Wednesday during a visit to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
He said President Tinubu’s economic reforms, though initially challenging, had begun to yield positive results.
“Judging by the work done by Mr President, he deserves a second term. The policies were tough because we were not used to them, but today there is clear evidence that the country is moving in the right direction. There is light at the end of the tunnel”, Fintiri stated.

The governor dismissed suggestions that the opposition could mount a formidable challenge in 2027, arguing that it was not the APC’s responsibility to organise rival parties.
“It is not our duty to organise the opposition. Our focus is to present our scorecard and win elections. If they cannot organise themselves, that is their business,” he said.
The governor pointed to the APC’s recent victories in by-elections and off-cycle polls as proof of widespread support.
Governor Fintiri also pledged to deliver 85% of votes in Adamawa for Tinubu in 2027, assuring that no rival candidate would secure up to 25 per cent in the state. He described himself as a grassroots mobiliser committed to consolidating the APC’s dominance.
Also present at the Secretariat were Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and National Planning; Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs; and Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination.
Meanwhile, Nentawe Yilwatda, the APC National Chairman, said the presence of key ministers at the Secretariat underscored efforts to strengthen synergy between the party and the executive.
“We have a social contract with Nigerians. The ministers are implementing the party’s promises, and we must ensure those commitments are fulfilled”, Yilwatda said.
