PHOTOS: Inside Tinubu’s historic UK state visit
King Charles III is hosting the first Nigerian state visit to the United Kingdom in 37 years, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, were received with full ceremonial honours at Windsor Castle.
According to the African Journalist , the visit marks a significant diplomatic moment between both countries.
At the start of the two-day visit, the Nigerian leader was welcomed by senior members of the British royal family, including Queen Camilla, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The occasion brought together political leaders and notable figures with strong ties to Nigeria.
The visit blended royal tradition with modern diplomacy, featuring a carriage procession and military parade within the grounds of Windsor Castle. Tinubu and the First Lady were first received by Prince William and Catherine at Fairmont Windsor Park before proceeding to Windsor for the formal welcome by the King and Queen.
As the procession entered the castle’s quadrangle, a guard of honour and the band of the Grenadier Guards performed both the Nigerian and British national anthems.
In a symbolic moment, President Tinubu inspected the troops under clear spring skies, with King Charles walking just behind, underscoring the enduring ties between both nations.
