We’re paying attention to blackouts, Tinubu assures Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration is paying attention to the nationwide blackouts and that power supply will improve.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress 4th Elective National Convention on Friday night at Eagle Square, Abuja, the President acknowledged the widespread complaints about electricity supply across the country.

“I assure you, many of you lamenting the problems of electricity power. Yes, we are paying attention to that,” Tinubu stated.

The President disclosed that the Grid Asset Management Company will inject 1,500MW into a new grid corridor as part of efforts to address the persistent power challenges.

Tinubu assured party members and Nigerians that the government is working to improve funding for the electricity sector.

“We are going to improve…Electricity will become better and be rest assured,” the President stated.

He linked improved electricity supply to broader economic opportunities, particularly for industrial development.

Tinubu stated, “There will be opportunity and progress in our industrial life.”

The President’s assurance comes amid widespread frustration among Nigerians over irregular power supply, with many households and businesses experiencing prolonged blackouts.

The national grid has collapsed multiple times in recent years, with the most recent incidents occurring in 2025 and 2026, leaving millions without electricity for extended periods.

At the convention, Tinubu had earlier acknowledged that despite economic gains recorded by his administration, Nigeria continues to face legacy issues including electricity supply, debts to Generation Companies and gas suppliers, and antiquated transmission infrastructure.

The Grid Asset Management Company was created on March 4 after the Federal Executive Council approved a proposal by Tinubu for its establishment.
