2027: Avoid temptations, prioritise party’s interest, Masari tells APC NWC
Former Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress National Convention Central Co-ordination Committee, Honourable Aminu Masari, has urged the National Chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to rebuff undue pressures from aspirants ahead of party primaries to produce candidates for the forthcoming general elections.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives gave the admonition to Professor Yilwatda on Thursday in his remarks shortly after presenting Certificates of Return to the APC National Chairman and 24 other members of his National Working Committee.
Checks revealed that the convention, where the majority of the national officers were returned, was held last month at Eagles Square in Abuja.
Honourable Masari, who noted that the NWC would be subjected to temptations and inducements from aspirants seeking the party tickets for elective offices, cautioned Professor Yilwatda to do the right thing in the interest of the party and the country.
He said, “I wish the National Working Committee God’s guidance as we face the task ahead, because we have one Working Committee that has just emerged, and we are immediately confronted with primaries, from the local government level up to the national level.
“So, I wish you God’s guidance and protection, and the wisdom to carry out the task successfully. Normally, parties, especially the National Working Committee, will be under intense pressure during primaries. I hope you will be able to resist temptation and do what is right for the benefit of our party and our country. I wish you God’s guidance.”
In his remarks, the APC National Chairman commended Honourable Masari and his team for conducting a seamless process, which he described as “an excellent, elegant, well-organised, transparent, and one of the most beautiful conventions ever held in Nigeriia
He declared that the processes from the ward to state congresses, culminating in the National Convention, were conducted without rancour or litigation.
“You have raised the bar beyond our imagination. I want to thank you for bringing your experience and selecting some of the best hands for the party. Thank you to all of you for working together to ensure that you executed the tasks given to you by the party.
“Your Excellencies, this convention will go down in history as one without a single litigation. It was almost as if we were at a carnival rather than a convention. The internal wrangling that used to trail conventions was completely absent. The Chairman extends our regards to all your members and expresses our warmest and deepest gratitude for what you have done for the party. May God bless and reward you and all your members for this service.”
The APC National Chairman assured the Convention Committee that his leadership would continue to deepen internal democracy and sustain its commitment to produce candidates that would win fair and square in the general elections.
“For the new National Working Committee, which has held its first meeting, we are committed to the party. The assurance I give you is that we will deepen democracy. We will uphold democracy within the party and ensure stability.
“We will continue to expand the party—keep reaching out, keep engaging, keep mobilising—to increase membership across the country. We must ensure that our party remains strong and focused. We must present clear policies, clear candidates, and a clear direction for Nigeria.
“Our responsibility is to strengthen democracy and build confidence in the political process. We will continue to work hard to ensure that our party remains the platform of choice for Nigerians.
“We assure you that this party will work towards credible elections and stronger democratic institutions. Our duty is to ensure that we deliver results at all levels—governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives and Houses of Assembly. We will put in all our energy and efforts to ensure success for our candidates.
“We will also maintain strong working relationships between the party, the states, and the federal level, ensuring coordination and unity of purpose. We pledge loyalty to the party, loyalty to Nigeria, and commitment to responsible leadership. I want to thank you for your efforts and your dedication. This is a responsibility we carry with honour—a responsibility to serve our people.”
