Plateau violence sponsored to stop Tinubu’s re-election — Jonah Jang

A former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has alleged that the recent wave of violence in the state was orchestrated by certain individuals seeking to undermine the re-election prospects of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Mr Jang made the remarks on Thursday during President Tinubu’s condolence visit to Plateau State, where he met with victims and families affected by the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area.

According to the former governor, the violence may be politically motivated, aimed at destabilising the region and disrupting the president’s political future.

“Your Excellency, I think some people want to sabotage these coming elections, and by the grace of God we will not allow them,” Mr Jang said.

He expressed confidence that such efforts would fail, insisting that the people of Plateau would resist any attempt to derail the electoral process.

Mr Jang also commended President Tinubu’s performance in office, describing his leadership as commendable despite mounting political opposition.

“Some people think they want to spoil it at this last tail end of the first tenure. By the grace of God, you’ll come back to accomplish the work,” he added.

The former governor further indicated his willingness to engage the president in deeper discussions on the situation, expressing hope for a private meeting in Abuja.

“I look forward, Your Excellency, to coming to Abuja so that we really have a heart-to-heart talk. God bless you, and I wish you a safe journey and a very happy Easter,” Mr Jang said.

The remarks come amid heightened concerns over insecurity in Plateau State, following a series of attacks that have claimed lives and displaced residents in recent weeks.
