Senator Goje Hails Tinubu On Flag-Off Of Over N1.245 trillion North-East Highway Project

Former Governor of Gombe State and Senator representing Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje, has commended President Bola Tinubu over the flag-off of the N1.245 trillion Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri highway project, describing it as a landmark infrastructure intervention for the North-East region.

The federal government on Thursday officially flagged off the project in Gombe, with plans to dualise the highway using rigid pavement technology and extend it to Maiduguri, Yola and Jalingo, thereby linking the six states of the North-East.

Reacting to the development, Goje said the project aligns with long-standing demands for improved road connectivity in the region and would significantly boost economic activities, trade and movement of people across the zone.

The senator noted that he had consistently advocated the construction of a major highway network linking North-East states, adding that the commencement of the project demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure challenges.

According to him, the presence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, at the flag-off ceremony underscores the importance attached to the project by the Tinubu administration.

“I have repeatedly called for the construction of a major highway linking states in the North-East. The flag-off of this project is a clear indication that the Federal Government is listening to the aspirations of the people,” he said.

Goje described President Tinubu as a responsive leader who has shown willingness to address the developmental needs of different parts of the country through strategic investments in infrastructure.

He also pointed to the mobilisation of contractors to the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road project as further evidence of the administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises.

The lawmaker urged residents of Gombe State and the wider North-East region to support the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the government’s infrastructure initiatives are already yielding tangible benefits.

“If somebody does good to you, you should appreciate it. The President has done well for us with this highway project, and we should acknowledge his efforts and support the policies that will further develop our region,” he stated.

Goje recalled that the Gombe-Biu road had suffered decades of deterioration and unsuccessful rehabilitation attempts under previous administrations, making the new project a major relief for road users and communities along the corridor.

He expressed optimism that upon completion, the highway would enhance regional integration, improve transportation efficiency and stimulate economic growth across the North-East.
